The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has launched an investigation into the company OpenAI, which developed the ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot, for possible violations of the Consumer Protection Act.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by CNN.
The US regulator sent the company a 20-page request this week.
The FTC asked OpenAI to answer dozens of questions, ranging from how it obtained the data it uses to train major language models, to “ChatGPT’s ability to misrepresent, mislead, or humiliate real people.”
He said the regulator’s investigation was initiated after he repeatedly warned the company not to make exaggerated claims about artificial intelligence or use the technology in a discriminatory way.
The FTC also emphasized that companies using artificial intelligence will be held responsible for any misleading technology-related practices.
As the nation’s top consumer protection watchdog, the FTC has the power to specifically investigate violations of privacy.
As reported by Ukrinform, the American company OpenAI, which developed the popular ChatGPT chatbot, has announced that its first office abroad will be in London, England.
