A month after the announcement, Apple is opening betas of iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and macOS Somora to interested testers. This way you can get started (at your own risk).
As usual, Apple announced the latest versions of its various software platforms at WWDC. iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and macOS Somora go down in history as rather modest updates, although they promise interesting new features. Read here what the new versions of iOS and macOS have to offer.
If you prefer to discover this for yourself, starting today you can register for the public betas of the new software versions. At this stage, Apple hopes to continue refining the updates before rolling them out to the general public. That will most likely happen in September.
In principle, anyone with a compatible iPhone or MacBook can register for the public beta. You do this through the Beta Software Program using your Apple ID. You choose which software you want to install. The file will then appear in the update menu of your device’s settings.
Note that installing a beta is always at your own risk. In this phase, Apple has already had the updates tested by software developers, who should have already fixed the biggest bugs. Still, a beta file can always have a negative impact on your device’s performance or battery. It is therefore recommended not to install this on your fixed device and to make enough backups of your data.
