TOPTEC is a South Korean company that manufactures machines used in the production of LCD and OLED panels with direct access to resources and information that other companies are willing to pay for. Both the president and his team decided to transfer and sell part of the projects to two Chinese corporations and thus get more profit. They are accused of manufacturing 24 pieces of 3D display laminating equipment and selling 16 of them to Chinese firms.

South Korean laws ensure that this type of technology is classified as “advanced technology” and its specifications and documents are not in the public domain. The court concluded that the employees and the CEO had failed in their duty of non-disclosure of trade secrets and, in addition to the CEO, who will be imprisoned for the next three years, two members of his team have already been sentenced to two years, and another will have to pay a fine of approximately $78,000.
