Windows 11 23H2 will be a smaller version waiting for Windows 12

Microsoft has shared a roadmap for Windows 11 23H2, the next version of its desktop operating system. It will be available next fall and as we expected it will be a minor update. Everything indicates that Microsoft will reserve the deployment of great news for Windows 12, which is expected in 2024.

Microsoft says Windows 11 23H2 will ship via “little booster pack”. You won’t need more because it shares the same code base and service branch of the current Windows 11 22H2recently updated with ‘Moments 3’.

It means for users jumping from a version will be very simple. Simply install a quality update from Windows Update that Microsoft ships, probably between October and November. The hardware requirements will be the same as the current ones for Windows 11, and the app compatibility will not change either, so all the ones you use now will work.

For enterprise environments, it will be just as easy, as administrators can deploy a new Windows update through Windows Server Update Services, Windows Update for Business, or Windows Autopatch. Microsoft used the roadmap presentation to remind the end of service version 21H1 (the first version of Windows 11) and the need to update by October 10.

The company also insists that Windows 10 will no longer receive feature and function updates and will be limited to security updates until the end of support in October 2025. This is far from a problem, for those of us still using Windows 10 as our main system is an advantage in terms of stability. Microsoft insists on migrations to Windows 11, but don’t worry, the time is right and we will definitely jump straight to Windows 12.

Of course, the roadmap does not include any support for older versions such as Windows 7, Windows 8 or 8.1, which have ended their life cycle. Here’s the best strategy for migrating to Windows 10 (and potentially later to Windows 11), something you can do at very low cost with the license offers we offer you regularly that allow you to get them for just 12 euros.

Windows 11 23H2: what’s new

Microsoft has not announced the features of the release. And there will be a minimum of news. From what we’ve seen so far in the Insider test builds, will be the most interesting:

  • The new personal assistant Windows Copilot fills the Cortana gap
  • More artificial intelligence in search with Bing
  • Modernizing File Explorer
  • Improvements to the Windows Subsystem for Android
  • Native support for RGB lighting
  • More support for compressed files (7z, gz, RAR, tar)
  • New and improved Windows Spotlight
  • Taskbar and Start menu improvements

Windows 11 23H2

Not exciting, and there’s no guarantee these Insider-tested features will arrive in time for Windows 11 23H2. We believe it Microsoft reserves all news for Windows 12, but we don’t know if it will be the revolution promised under the modular Core OS that ends up with legacy components that have been with us since Windows 95, or if it will be Windows 11 tweaked with the same code base. We already told you.
