A BYD, about to announce its plant in Bahia, shows great ambitions in the Brazilian market. In addition to the already announced Dolphin, the Chinese brand is about to launch BYD stamp, electric sedan that promises to be more affordable than your previous version, BYD Khanand which is considered a direct competitor to the Tesla Model 3. The Seal is already in the process of being approved in the country, signaling its imminent arrival.

Chinese electric car BYD Dolphin broke the sales record in…
In just one week, the model of the Chinese automaker conquers the Brazilians and exceeds all expectations.
Launched in 2022, the BYD Seal has rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions, but only the second variant is expected to hit Brazilian soil. The model under consideration is Seal All-wheel drive GS 590EV, which stands out not only for its all-wheel drive, but also for its impressive performance figures. With two engines (one for each axle) Seal reaches a total power of 530 hp. and torque 68.3 kgf.m.. Those figures allow the car to reach 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, according to factory data.
At 4.8 meters long, the BYD Seal is a large sedan, just like the Han. However, unlike the model already released in Brazil, the Seal has a simpler interior. High-tech resources such as the sophisticated instrument panel, Hi-Fi audio system, second-row screens, and red leather seats are replaced with a more understated trim similar to that of the Dolphin. Both models use the new 3.0 electronic platform architecture.

The BYD Seal has a panoramic sunroof and a low bonnet whose bulges are accentuated by LED headlights. At the rear, curved taillights are connected by an illuminated center strip, reminiscent of Mercedes electric sedans. Also, like the recently launched subcompact car in Brazil, the Seal is inspired by oceanic elements, both in the color scheme and in the interior and exterior design.
Engine power and long range
The flowing lines of BYD Seal contribute to a drag coefficient of 0.22. Combined with an 82.5 kWh battery, the car delivers a claimed range of 650 km. With a constant current charge of 150 kW, you can bring the charge from 10% to 80% in about 25 minutes.
Comparisons to the Tesla Model 3 are mainly related to the price of the base versions, which is around $20,000. However, relative to Tesla, the Chinese model is more limited in terms of vehicle automation, featuring less advanced adaptive autopilot than the American brand.
An additional challenge for BYD, especially in Brazil, will be to avoid internal competition. Overseas, the premium version of the Seal costs very close to the price of the Han sold here. Thus, a possible price above 500 thousand reais may limit the success of the Chinese manufacturer’s new bid for the domestic market.
