Hubble telescope records a ‘space monster’ creation

The Hubble Space Telescope has imaged a new type of large galaxy cluster called eMACS J1353.7+4329. This cluster is located about eight billion light-years from Earth in the constellation Canis Canis. For comparison, the farthest object ever observed is 13.5 billion light-years from Earth.

In a statement, the European Space Agency ESA described the galaxy cluster as a “monster in the making” consisting of at least two elliptical galaxy clusters in the process of merging. As ESA notes, the merger will result in a single giant cluster that acts as a gravitational lens.

The galaxy cluster is visible as multiple bright ovals in the new Hubble image. Every galaxy has a glowing orange halo around its core. The image includes a bright star showing the effect of star formation from four different diffraction bursts, along with numerous other galaxies.
