The Starlink Internet service satellite system is being tested to monitor seismic and volcanic activity in Yellowstone National Park in the United States.
As reported by Ukrinform, Teslarati reported this.
Starlink’s ability to provide stable Internet connectivity in remote areas will be invaluable to Yellowstone, as the area’s significant number of GPS, seismometers, inclinometers, and temperature sensors are deployed in remote locations to minimize their impact on the environment and visitors.
For these sensors and equipment to function optimally, they must maintain reliable connections.
Starlink terminals were installed at one of the well stations in late spring to test the system in the park. Tests so far show that the system is working well.
If trials continue to be successful, more Starlink satellite Internet terminals will likely be added during the winter months.
As Ukrinform reports, on Sunday, July 16, the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched a new batch of Starlink satellites into orbit and then landed on a platform in the Atlantic Ocean.
