Musk Sues Unknown Twitter Data Collectors, But Wants to Train His AI About Tweets

Elon Musk talked a lot about privacy even before he finalized his deal to buy Twitter. So the intentions of the recently formed X Corp. (the parent company that now owns Twitter) looks even weirder. But everything in order.

Musk is suing

According to Western media, X Corp. He filed a lawsuit against four unidentified individuals for alleged “large-scale illegal data extraction” from Twitter. The lawsuit referred to them as “unknown persons or entities” and only mentioned their IP addresses. So it’s unclear whether Musk himself knows what these companies are or whether he wants the court to help identify them.

The lawsuit accused them of flooding Twitter with automated requests to leak data “far exceeding the number any person can send to the server in a given period of time.” billionaires, organizations tried to scrape the entire Twitter in a short timeand accused them of limiting the number of tweets read at the beginning of the month.

These requests place a heavy load on the X Corp servers. and millions of X Corp. spoiled the customer’s user experience,
– wrote the company in its complaint.

The company is likely to lose. The fact is that the court in the USA is based on case law, that is, it examines the results of similar cases in the past and makes a decision according to its example. In 2022, the LinkedIn service filed a complaint trying to prevent its competitors from extracting information from users’ public profiles. However The court later ruled that removing publicly available data on the Internet did not violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA).

Twitter is seeking $1 million in damages.

New AI from xAI

As we know, Musk announced his own AI a few months ago, which will compete with current market leaders ChatGPT, Bing AI, Bard and others. In fact, he has already bought thousands of video cards for his training.

On Friday, during the Twitter Spaces conference, Musk said that his new AI startup xAI will be collaborating with Tesla, which he also leads. The collaboration will encompass both hardware and software and could help accelerate new developments in autonomous driving technology.

The billionaire also said: Public tweets from users will be used to train AI. From a legal standpoint, this is no question, because the data is Elon Musk’s, but given the repeated statements about his desire for better privacy, it seems a bit hypocritical.

According to Musk, xAI will aim to create a “maximum curious” AI that “understands not only the internet but also the physical world”. At the same time, the entrepreneur noted that the xAI language artificial intelligence would not be politically correct.
