The power test data comes from Intel’s own internal projections, which were limited to PL1 and PL2 (Power Level 1 and 2) for the two Raptor Lake S variants at 253 watts and for the Arrow Lake at 250 watts. This data already indicates that consumption in the future generation will continue to be high. Additionally, the graphics have been normalized, using the current Intel Core i9-13900K as a benchmark, matching the current generation Raptor Lake (or standard or original Raptor Lake to distinguish it from the update).

You can see in the first graph that the “refreshed” Raptor Lake variant barely outperforms the original, but it’s important to remember here that the Core i9 series is not aiming to be the one that will benefit the most from the said refresh. Arrow Lake-S, according to these graphics, suggests that it may be a significant improvement at the processor level, but not a revolutionary one. However, the situation is different in integrated graphics (IGP), as here the future generation of Intel processors represents between 220 and 240 percent compared to the 100% represented by the original Raptor Lakewhich represents an increase of slightly more than twofold.

The graphics performance benchmarks don’t list the graphics specifications of the Alder Lake-S Xe LP, but even that detail shouldn’t be that surprising considering the company has been taking the development of its graphics technologies very seriously in recent years. point of return to the specialized graphics market.

In addition to the expected performance increase that Arrow Lake-S brings, especially in terms of graphics processing, it is important to note that future generations of processors will require the purchase of a new motherboard when running on an LGA 1851 socket, while the Raptor Lake-S Refresh will rely on the LGA 1700 used by the original generation variant and Alder Lake. This detail should allow a simple firmware update to allow many Alder Lake motherboards to support the Raptor Lake-S Refresh, but we’ll see what happens when push comes to shove.
