Named the Sphere, the largest LED screen on the planet has become the main attraction of the light and color show, which has attracted the attention of the whole world. Located in Las Vegas, USA, it became a symbol of the solar system during the 4th of July celebration, one of the most important holidays in the country.
Construction on Sphere began in 2018 as a multi-year, $2.3 billion collaborative project between Sphere Entertainment and Madison Square Garden. The new entertainment facility is 111 meters high and 157 meters wide and boasts an impressive 53,884 square meters of outdoor LED screen, which uses about 1.2 million “washers”, each capable of producing 256 million different colors.
In its debut, the Sphere was transformed into many Solar System objects, including the Earth, Moon, and Mars. In addition, visual effects of fireworks, the American flag and natural scenes were created, which attracted the attention of millions of Internet users and residents of Las Vegas.
David Hopkinson, President and COO of MSG Sports and responsible for brand partnerships and global marketing for parent company Sphere Entertainment Co., expressed his enthusiasm for the potential of the Exosphere.
“The extraordinary experiences we can create are only limited by our imagination and we are excited to finally share the exciting potential of the exosphere with the world,” he said during the launch in Las Vegas.
The creators see the exosphere more than a canvas or a billboard. During the show, one could see what an object could be and the artistic possibilities it provides, being useful for partners and brands to tell stories in a way never seen before. At least that’s what Guy Barnett, senior vice president of brand strategy and creative development, says.
Las Vegas Sphere will officially open in September 2023. Aside from the impressive outdoor LED screen, the interior also leaves nothing to be desired, with a vaulted ceiling and walls surrounding a 17,385-seat bowl that will have its own LED screen. 14,864 square meters with public participation. The internal screen promises a high-definition picture no matter where you are in the audience.
For now, the only events confirmed for The Sphere are U2, which plans to open the venue with four performances in September and October, and director Darren Aronofsky’s Postcard from Earth, The Sphere’s first “immersive experience.” for five days in the first half of October.
Tickets for both shows are already on sale on the Sphere website and no doubt more events will be added as we get closer to the official opening. See more photos below!
