Changes to Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem continue, now with the arrival of Xbox Game Pass Core, in numerous confirmations that those from Redmond have decided to restructure their offer and also adjust prices to current market conditions. The big question is whether this will be the last change we experience, or if there are more changes coming during this long and hot summer that has just begun.

Xbox Live Gold does for now the oldest service in the gaming ecosystem of Microsoft consoles. For a fee of €6.99 per month or €59.99 per year, it offers both online play and Games with Gold, an add-on that allowed subscribers to add titles to their game collection.

Recall that recently we have seen both indications that this subscription may have its days numbered, especially after the success of Game Pass, and an attempt to increase the price, which was quickly reversed by Microsoft after the reaction of users. So it looked clear for a while Xbox Live Gold was fitting less and less into the global strategy every day defined by Xbox executives with Phil Spencer at the helm.

They have finally found a way to break with the past while offering some continuity to their users. And as we can read on the official Xbox blog, Xbox Live Gold will disappear on September 14, leaving room for Xbox Game Pass Core to filla new Game Pass subscription tier that will offer some of the incentives currently found in gold, but with significant changes.

Essentially, Game Pass Core will keep the same price as Xbox Live Goldi.e. 6.99 euros per month or 59.99 euros per year, but one of its key features, Games with Gold, will disappear, i.e. free titles that users have acquired with a subscription. In this regard, all acquired games that belong to the Xbox 360 catalog will continue to be part of users’ collections even if they choose not to sign up for Game Pass Core, but the same will not happen with those from Xbox One. .

Instead of game gifts, this new Game Pass subscription level will offer access to a limited selection of service catalogs, in a list that will be revised regularly and that seems to grow over time (in a rather mild way, yes). On Xbox Game Pass Core launch day, the games included in the subscription will be as follows:
