Calibri replaced Times New Roman as the default font for Microsoft Office in 2007. History repeats itself once again. After 15 years, the world’s most known office suite is changing again logo font appearing as a highlight in the selection panel: Time to say ‘hello’ to Aptos.

We are witnessing the end of a process that started a few years ago, driven by the evolutionary course of technology and the needs of users. The emergence of higher resolution displays, new device types, and business dynamics necessitated a new typography change for Microsoft Office.

Thus, the Redmond company offered five candidate options to become the new resource. Microsoft Office default. For over two years users have been able to use Bierstadt, Grandview, Seaford, Skeena and Tenorite, and some have provided feedback. The latter, precisely, was key to this change.

The most resonant alternative was Bierstadt, but the company also decided to change the name to Aptos, probably due to community feedback. Now that the change is official, Microsoft assures that distribution of the new font has begun and will reach all Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel users “in the coming months”.

Aptos promises to be the best screen alternative for new screens and devices around us. sharpness, uniformity. Created by American designer Steve Matteson, this typeface is offered as a delicate and contemporary sans-serif option inspired by mid-20th century Swiss typeface.

If you don’t want to wait for Aptos to be featured, you can use it starting today. Like the other four alternatives, they have been available in Microsoft Office for a long time. You just have to make sure your office suite is updated.
