A apple is gearing up to enter the foldable smartphone market, and the company has now successfully filed a roll-up screen patent with the US Patent and Trademark Office. This technology will allow Apple to develop a device with a screen that can be securely rolled up to stay closed, making it even more portable than a cell phone.

As indicated contraptionin documents describing the novelty, the Cupertino giant claims that the technique has a display that can remain collapsed for storage and expanded for viewing. Covering the panel will be a storage roll, which may also contain parts of the device’s hardware.

Portal indicates that while the outer display portion of this device is rolled up, apple will have a surface that protects against impacts and scratches, with the screen facing the inside of the model.

Apple clarifies that in the patent documents its project is planning, the surface that will be open when closed will receive compressive stress when folded, thus avoiding damage to the glass layer of the screen.

It is worth noting that filing a patent does not mean that a product with this technology will actually be launched, as companies usually patent technologies only to prevent competitors from using the same concept.

Technologies similar to the proposed apple has been developed by other smartphone manufacturers for several years. Companies such as LG, OPPO This Motorola have already submitted their proposals for flip cell phones, but none of the presented models of these manufacturers has been launched.
