According to the July 14 Meta order seen by Politico, the ban will take effect on August 4. The restriction on targeted advertising will be in effect for three months.

Facebook and Instagram will be able to show personalized ads based on the information users enter in the “About” section.

Meta will pay a fine of 1 million Norwegian kroner (approximately 90,000 euros) per day if it violates the order of the Norwegian authorities.

The document states that the temporary ban could be lifted if Meta finds a way to legally process personal data and gives users the right to opt out of tracking-based targeted advertising.

The ban comes after the European Court of Justice ruled on July 4 that Meta illegally collected people’s data to serve targeted ads.
