Two giants of the tech world deepen their ties; Meta is collaborating with Microsoft for the open source development of LlaMa 2, its latest Large Language Model. This announcement was made earlier this week during the Microsoft Inspire event.
Llama 2 will be fully open source, Meta will open source the AI model to people and organizations from different industries, with artificial intelligence as the unifying factor. The company will work closely with Microsoft on this.
According to Meta, the predecessor LlaMa 1 received more than a hundred thousand access requests. Now the company wants to make version two freely available for research and commercial use. Meta provides resources for pre-trained models as well as refined models for conversations.
Through the partnership with Microsoft, LlaMa 2 is now available in the Azure AI catalog. This allows developers to apply the various cloud properties of Azure to the AI model. The system can also be run locally on Windows. However, the collaboration is not limiting, you can also find LlaMa 2 on Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Hugging Face.
The partnership between Meta and Microsoft is not new. The tech giants have already collaborated on various aspects of AI infrastructure and several joint papers on the state and growth of artificial intelligence have already been published.
Meta claims to be aware of the risks that AI still poses. The models are red teamedTherefore, the necessary security tests were carried out and Meta also had external tests carried out by third parties.
In addition, the company provides the necessary publications to ensure that everything is done in the most transparent and accountable way possible. In addition, Meta has built a community of academic researchers to ensure everything runs smoothly.
It’s clear that Meta will be fully dedicated to AI in the near future. That’s no surprise after reports earlier this year that the Metaverse company’s focus was shifting more to artificial intelligence. Given the recent coverage of this virtual playground, it’s undoubtedly not a bad move.
