Lenovo is launching new flash storage servers in its ThinkSystem range. These are designed to help organizations run AI workloads on-premises.
Lenovo is launching two new storage servers in its ThinkSystem portfolio: a new ThinkSystem DG Enterprise and a ThinkSystem DM3010H. Because both servers are all-flash devices, the focus is on performance rather than capacity. Lenovo expects the devices to help organizations with AI workloads that typically require data to be available quickly on high-performance storage.
The manufacturer takes the opportunity to also present the ThinkAgile SXM4600 and SXM6600. These are integrated systems tailored to the Microsoft Azure Stack Hub. The appliances must support a hybrid configuration with Azure.
The Lenovo ThinkSystem DG Enterprise is a new range of all-flash servers with Quad-Level Cell (QLC) SSDs that are said to perform up to six times faster than HDD servers. Lenovo also states a cost saving of 50 percent, but it is unclear which parameters the manufacturer calculates for this, since flash memory is significantly more expensive in euros per gigabyte than HDD memory. The servers are specifically designed for read-intensive AI workloads and workloads with large amounts of data.
Lenovo calls the ThinkSystem DM3010H server a next-generation hybrid unified storage solution and states that it is ideal for SMB customers. The server offers scalability and flexibility for a variety of workloads.
The Lenovo ThinkAgile SXM4600 and SXM6600 servers are integrated systems for Microsoft Azure Stack Hub. Lenovo wants to play a role in the on-premises portion of a hybrid multicloud architecture. .ThinkAgile SXM solutions feature full-stack lifecycle management, native Azure integration, and extend applications to the public and private cloud.
The DG and DM servers come with the Lenovo Unified Complete Software Suite, which takes care of data protection, among other things. For example, the software would protect against ransomware attacks.
