Google is testing AI backgrounds for video conferencing. With a simple description, a suitable picture can be conjured up in the background.
Don’t want to flaunt your messy workspace, the background blur is too boring and the preset backgrounds are too ugly? Then Google is working on a solution. For meetings in Meet, the company wants a description to generate a background.
Dall-E for wallpapers
Of course, Google uses AI for this. AI generating prints is not new. Finally, before the ChatGPT hype, there was the image generator Dall-E, also from OpenAI. The technology that Google wants to integrate into Meet is based on the same principle, but uses Google’s own models.
It seems that besides a description you can also choose a style (e.g fantasy if you want to share the quarterly numbers from a fairy tale forest). You can create backgrounds in advance, but also during a meeting if you need some distraction from what is being said. Like Dall-E, Google will show you a few suggestions that you can then choose from.

Today, the AI wallpapers are only available through Workspace Labs. Those who sign up for it write down some privacy rights so developers can improve their products based on your experiences. Patience is therefore required in a business context.
