According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is currently working on Apple GPT artificial intelligence projects that can compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. AI work has been a priority for Apple over the past few months as the service’s chatbots and AI capabilities in apps have grown.

Just last year, Apple created its own framework, codenamed Ajax, for building large language models similar to Open AI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. Apple also developed its own chatbot, which some engineers call Apple GPT, similar to ChatGPT for internal testing.

Ajax platform is built on Google Jax machine learning platform running on Google Cloud. Apple reportedly considered signing a contract with OpenAI and was testing the OpenAI technology for its corporate teams, but ultimately didn’t.

However, as Gürman emphasized, Apple does not yet have a “clear strategy” for creating such a product for consumers.

Bloomberg’s tech reporter, Mark Gurman, has a long history of making pretty accurate predictions about Apple’s plans and is particularly prized online for its regular early leaks.
