In far from the most traditional union, a couple from Colorado, USA, chose an unconventional wedding ceremony. Rhys Winch and Dayton Truitt, who met through a dating app, decided to have their ceremony hosted by the artificial intelligence ChatGPT.
The historic Morrison Church, built in the 19th century, was chosen as the venue for the ceremony. It’s funny to imagine that a church with over 200 years of history could host an artificial intelligence wedding.
The innovative idea came from Stephen Winch, the father of the bride. He said that the first attempt to use an AI bot to conduct the ceremony was not successful. “At first he said no. “I can’t do it, I don’t have eyes, I don’t have a body. I can’t attend your wedding,” Steven said.
However, after several attempts with ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence finally agreed to participate. A bot voice transmitted via the app greeted the guests with the following message: “Thank you all for joining us today to celebrate the extraordinary love and togetherness of Rhys Winch and Dayton Truitt.”
Dayton Truitt, the groom, called the event monumental. “Here in Colorado, by the grace of God, there is no need to have an official at a wedding as long as both partners agree,” he explained. And they agreed that they did. After all, it was a last-minute event that is easier and cheaper to implement with the help of artificial intelligence.
The vows that the bride and groom exchanged were made by themselves, not by a computer. Guests attending the wedding stated that although the ceremony was conducted by artificial intelligence, it still had other characteristics of a “traditional” wedding.
