Google is exploring new horizons with the development of an artificial intelligence tool called Genesis. Google’s new software can create news articles, and the offering has already been pitched to major publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and News Corp.
Genesis is a technology that can create journalistic texts based on current events and other information. The idea is that the tool works as a personal assistant for journalists, allowing them to focus on other tasks.
However, reception for Genesis was not entirely positive. Some executives who attended the Google presentation described the tool as disturbing, voicing concern that it seemed to ignore the effort put into creating accurate, well-written news.
Google has already begun to introduce the new technology, but has not yet disclosed which team is behind the development of Genesis. In any case, it’s important to remember that they have similar AI, such as Help Me Write in Gmail and Google Docs, as well as other technologies such as Bard and Magic Compose.
Site news will be used for AI training
Genesis can be specifically trained in the writing style of a news organization, using the organization’s news archive as a base. This aligns with OpenAI’s recent partnership with the Associated Press to explore the use of generative AI in news products and services.
“In partnership with news publishers, especially smaller ones, we are in the early stages of exploring ideas for providing AI-enabled tools to help journalists in their work. For example, AI-enabled tools can help reporters with headline options or different writing styles,” Google told The Verge.
The company also confirmed to The Verge that the main purpose of the Genesis launch is to enable journalists to use these new technologies to improve their work and therefore productivity.
