Right after the introduction of GPT-4, in March, and that Microsoft confirmed that Bing was already based, at least in part, on this new model, many of us focused on one of the most interesting innovations of this new generation of the successful OpenAI product. I mean, of course, its ability to use images when generating prompts. The possibilities that opened up with this new feature were countless, and it didn’t take long for Redmond to confirm that it would be coming to their chatbot as well.
Sure, the image itself isn’t a query, but the ability to generate a query based on an image, that really makes a huge difference. Rather, it marked it, since Google already added this feature to Bard with the last major update, although it is true that at the moment it is only available in the English version of the search engine chatbot. Without a doubt, this is the most important evolutionary leap for this type of service since it started to become popular with ChatGPT at the end of last year.
Microsoft kept its word, first in the version of Bing for Android and iOS and later also for Windows 11. However, in Redmond they saw how Google introduced interesting improvements in this regard in their chatbot, so they decided to act to improve the experience of uploading images to Bing so that we can use them in our queries. A feature that currently allows three ways to enter: use an image URL, upload it from your device, and take a photo.
These means of entry may seem more than sufficient, but the truth is that there is one that would make the experience even better, and the good news is that, according to what we can read in MSPowerUser, the company is already working on it. And that’s it Bing will soon let you use images copied to your device’s clipboard. And according to the aforementioned publication, the wait won’t be too long, to the extent that it could debut as early as next week.
The ability to use images directly from the clipboard for practical purposes means users will be able to take a screenshot of anything they want and instantly take it to Bing for use in a chatbot query. It is true that currently it is possible to save said screenshot as a file and upload it later, but this innovation undoubtedly offers a much more convenient, faster and simpler workflow.
