The PlayStation 5 Pro is Project Trinity and we have its possible specs

We’ve been talking for months now about the PlayStation 5 Pro, a console that will follow the pattern we saw with the PlayStation 4 Pro and will PlayStation 5 facelift with which Sony will significantly improve its specifications at the hardware level, all in order to prevent part of its users from “migrating” to PCs in search of more performance.

The truth is that we did not have any relevant leaks about the possible specifications of the said console and all the articles we shared with you were based on guesses based on the changes that were introduced with the PlayStation 4 Pro and also on common sense, because in the end it is clear that the PlayStation 5 Pro should bring significant improvements, but cannot make drastic changes compared to the original model, because in that case we would be in for a real generational change.

The first major leak of the possible specifications of the PlayStation 5 Pro, a console that is being developed from 2022 and which is known internally as Project Trinity. Its APU has been christened Viola and it is said that the first development kits will start reaching the most important studios from the same month of November.

PlayStation 5 Pro GPU Key Specifications

  • AMD Radeon graphics core with 30 WGP, which corresponds to 60 compute units.
  • 3,840 shaders, i.e. the same amount as, for example, the Radeon RX 6800.
  • 240 texturing units.
  • 96 raster units.
  • 256-bit bus.
  • 60 cores to accelerate ray tracing.
  • 18GHz unified GDDR6 memory.

PlayStation 5 Pro

For comparison purposes, the PlayStation 5 has a AMD Radeon GPU with 2,304 shaders144 texture units, 64 raster units, 256-bit bus, 36 cores for ray tracing acceleration and 16 GB of 14 GHz GDDR6 memory.

Unfortunately, we don’t have details about its CPU or the amount of memory that this console could integrate, but the most logical thing would be that Sony repeat with a Zen 2 or maybe Zen 3 based 8 core 16 thread processorand keep the configuration of 16 GB of unified memory or, in the best case, slightly expand it.

As I said, we should not expect too significant changes, because we would already be entering a generational change, and because these it would complicate things for developers. In terms of performance, this PlayStation 5 Pro will aim offers an enhanced gaming experience with 4K resolutiona resolution that was too large for the original PlayStation 5.

If all goes well, the PlayStation 5 Pro will be launched sometime in 2024, as previous rumors and leaks suggested. The sale price is unknown, but I think it will most likely end up in the price between 500 and 600 euros.
