At the beginning of July of this month Volkswagen Group allowed Audi start talks with Chinese automakers about using their technology to build electric vehicles (EVs). Now, the automaker has revealed an agreement with the Chinese state-owned giant.sa Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) to create German cars from one of the Asian manufacturer’s platforms.

According to AutoAutotrademark Volkswagen negotiated the use of a proprietary platform for electric vehicles. IM Motorsowned by SAICand this announcement signifies that the companies have reached a consensus on the use of the technology.

The site emphasizes that Audi intends to use Chinese bases”Salon IM L7“And”IM LS7 SUV” that support architectures electric vehicles up to 800 V with shaft length from 2800 mm to 3200 mm.

The use of these platforms means that the German automaker’s future vehicles will have batteries, an engine, an axle and a number of other parts created by SAIC. This means that the company Volkswagen shall be responsible for making the necessary adjustments on this basis, in addition to building the body and implementing its software.

Audi is expected to switch to Chinese platforms by 2029.

Initially Audi it is planned to use the SSP platform developed by Volkswagen in the next generation of electric vehicles. But the German giant faced a number of software problems while creating its platform and decided to postpone the launch of new items until 2029.

Because of this delay, the board Volkswagen Group allowed Audi negotiate with Chinese automakers to use their technology in their electric vehicles. The manufacturer did not say which first cars will be released on Chinese platforms, but should announce this soon.
