Ryzen 9 7945HX3D Launched, AMD Brings 3D Cache to Notebooks

A fairly complete escape from us dropped the whole bomb and that’s it AMD developed the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, a new laptop processor that uses its popular 3D stacked L3 cache technology, which until now remained exclusive to desktop processors.

The Ryzen 9 7945HX3D could be the first of a whole family of notebook processors based on the Zen 4 architecture and equipped with a large amount of L3 cache, thanks to 3D stacking. This new processor will have a configuration 16 cores and 32 threadsit will support overclocking via AMD Precision Boost technology and will have nothing more and nothing less than 128 MB of L3 cache.

It’s impressive that AMD managed to cram 128MB of L3 cache into the notebook’s processor, especially considering how much space it takes up at the silicon level. In case someone gets lost, I remind you this cache is divided as follows:

  • 32MB of L3 cache on each CPU chiplet.
  • 64 MB 3D stacked L3 cache in the first chiplet.

Each chiplet has 8 cores, can handle 16 threads and has full access to its 32MB L3 cache. In this case, only the chiplet on which the extra 64 MB of L3 cache is stacked has access to themwhich means that the first chip has a total of 96 MB of L3 cache and the second only 32 MB.

AMD didn’t neglect anything and it was thanks to this leak that we were also able to find out that this Ryzen 9 7945HX3D comes with AMD Radeon 610M GPU, a basic integrated solution that is more than sufficient for surfing the Internet and viewing multimedia content. Like all Ryzens based on the Zen 4 architecture, this one comes with an I/O chiplet, which is exactly where the integrated GPU is located.

This processor will be used first in the notebook ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17″high-end equipment, which will also come in a configuration with a powerful GeForce RTX 4090 Mobileand supplemented with 32 GB of dual-channel DDR5 memory. The first listings we’ve had a chance to see list the price at AU$5,599, which would be about 3,407 euros per change Directly without applying taxes.

AMD is expected to release Ryzen 9 7845HX3D and Ryzen 7 7745HX3D, which will be configured with 12 cores and 24 threads and with 8 cores and 16 threads. The former will also have 128 MB of L3 cache and the latter will have 96 MB of L3 cache. The latter will be the most interesting price-to-performance ratio for gaming laptops, no doubt about it.
