Twitter becomes X

After a series of tweets from Elon Musk himself, it looks like Twitter will soon go on as X, X for short.

It looks like Twitter has been going by its current name for days, if not hours. After a series of tweets from owner Elon Musk, there’s a good chance the Blue Bird will be knocked out of the nest by just an X.

crazy hours

Elon Musk, owner of Twitter, has been tweeting a lot in the last 24 hours and the reason for that seems to be the biggest change since he took over the platform. It started out pretty mysterious. musk tweeted that we would soon say goodbye to the Twitter brand and all birds.

That tweet proved to be the harbinger of what appeared to be a fragmented campaign of impromptu considerations and rebranding announcements. The recurring element in all of these messages was the letter X, nothing more. A Musk tweet with something lasting the new logo could be made official through a short video by entrepreneur Sawyer Merritt.

CEO Linda Yaccarino is doing it now also brave So there’s a chance these are just pipe dreams musk seem to be a bit smaller. She also mentioned in a thread that X could be significantly expanded in terms of functionality, even by processing of payments. The only question is which users would dare.

In the meantime, things have happened quickly: Musk, Yaccarino and various employees and associated accounts are now using the X logo in their Twitter profiles, the website x.com leads to the Twitter page, an X logo has already appeared on the facade from a Twitter office and a Twitter account has since changed its name (not yet off the handle) to X.

x marks the spot

The choice for X isn’t particularly striking in itself: Musk has a soft spot for the letter. His space company is called SpaceX, Tesla’s SUV is called Model X, and x.com was the original site for PayPal. In addition, he recently founded a new artificial intelligence company, X.AI.

We’ve often reported on changes and adjustments to Twitter, most recently the ability to publish very long texts or renewed rules for its APIs. But this still seems to be the biggest change of the Musk era. He has since just started posting about his space company again, so it remains to be seen how serious this rebranding actually is.
