Twitter will limit direct messages to free accounts

Elon Musk continues to work tirelessly it destroysr Twitter again, with a master plan that, unlike the league, you will recognize has been carefully planned and studied for a long time, leaving no room for improvisation to avoid the risk of making wrong decisions. I think I have spent all my ironic balance for today, so the truth is that we are talking about a new decision that can be added to those already taken to threaten the future of the social network that it bought last year.

Recently, as we’ve told you, Twitter has imposed fairly restrictive limits on the number of messages users can see per day. Recall that at the time these limits were set as follows:

  • Verified accounts: 6000 posts per day.
  • “Old” unverified accounts: 600 posts per day.
  • Recent unverified accounts: 300 posts per day.

As claimed at the time, the raison d’être for this restriction had to do with the problems the social network was experiencing, it was that they were adopted “Addressing extreme levels of data mining and system manipulation«. It sounded like an excuse, because many of us thought from the beginning that it serves both to attract more users to Twitter Blue, the social network’s payment method, and to reduce the costs (in terms of IT infrastructure usage) of non-paying users. And yes, it’s true that these limits have since been increased, but even so, we still face an important limitation.

Of course, this measure was precisely taken as Twitter struggles to regain traction as an advertising platformthe main reason for hiring Linda Yaccarino, which at least in the first instance seems like nonsense, because what the social network ends up doing with this restriction is forcing a reduction of the much-desired commitment users with the platform.

Now we find another measure that, together with the limitation of seen messages, shows us again that Musk’s only real interest in the social network is its monetization. And as we can read on ZDNet, Twitter will put a limit on direct messages that can be sent from free accounts. And again the excuse, that this measure will be introduced to reduce the amount of spam. As you might have guessed, Twitter Blue accounts will not have this restriction.

The maximum number of direct messages has not been specified at this time which can be sent daily using free accounts, but it is true that this feature of Twitter has become a means of direct communication for many people, who will of course now have to look for an alternative. And the problem, as with many other movements, is that Twitter, by doing this, gives many of its users (anyone who doesn’t pass the box) zero regard for them.
