Spotify is increasing the rates of all its premium plans

Price hikes are always unwanted news for most, but in this case, we have to admit that Spotify has kept the same prices since its inception (if memory serves), which is more than remarkable. Let us remind you that the service was already offered in October 2008 (Initially in Europe to later make the jump to other geographies and become a global company).

This movement It makes even more sense when analyzing the competition, and it’s because last year we’ve already seen similar increases in other services like Apple Music, in what seems to be a general move in the sector that the Swedish-born company has decided to break out of. Now, from that point on, it was clear that it was only a matter of time before they would eventually raise their rates, and we expected (and have) them to be on par with their main competitors.

As we can on his official blog Spotify will raise the price of its subscription in 53 countries, which includes Spain. The publication, yes, only indicates a price increase in the United States, although the new rates are already published on the company’s website, and in addition, existing subscribers will receive an email with information about this price increase, we can imagine that, along with a predictable explanation of the reasons that led the company to this step.

Spotify is increasing the rates of all its premium plans

As you can see in the image above this paragraph, the rates in Spain are as follows:

  • Individual: 10.99 euros.
  • Duo: 14.99 euros.
  • Known: 17.99 euros.
  • Student: 5.99 euros.

This is, as I said earlier, an understandable move by Spotify, but nevertheless there is a very important nuance here, and this is directly related to one of the promises, so far unfulfilled, that have already come from afar from the company. And yes, it is true that in this way Spotify compares its price with the services it competes with, but at the moment we must not forget that the latter have long offered hi-fi music and, in some cases, surround sound.

We’ve already talked at length about Spotify’s erratic behavior regarding the arrival of Hi-Fi quality music over the years that have passed. since the company announced it in February 2021 and until recently the latest information was that «at some point there would be something«. It was recently leaked that they will be working to ensure that quality music comes hand in hand with the new schedule throughout 2023.

The problem is that Hi-Fi quality music has been lacking until nowwas justified by Spotify’s lower price compared to its competitors. However, if the prices are equalized now, and at the same time the company prepares a more expensive plan for this kind of music, the response of users may not be what they expect, and it would be fully justified.
