Israeli startup Curiosity Robotics has created a friendly, talkative little robot to teach English as a foreign language to preschoolers.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by NoCamels.
Aico is a magical learning tool with artificial intelligence, the result of three years of research at the Curiosity Labs at Tel Aviv University.
The robot was programmed to use a special teaching method developed by British-Israeli educator Helen Doron, who advocates for children to start learning a second language at three months of age.
“We know that about 90% of a five-year-old’s brain is developed. This is an excellent time to study. We should definitely take advantage of this and start teaching as soon as possible,” said Falyn McKenna, Curiosity Robotics product manager.
The little white robot is stated to be much smaller than the average three-year-old. They have arms but no legs. However, he has a distinctive smiley face on his head.
Aico is controlled by the teacher in the classroom via a mobile app.
The robot teaches children English through songs, games and cards with simple words. It is an immersive experience that reflects how very young children acquire language naturally.
The company also aims to go beyond just teaching English and adapt the same teaching style to other subjects such as math and science.
As reported by Ukrinform, researchers from the University of California, San Diego (USA) have created a robot whose front “limbs” look like turtle flippers.
