What if you’re tingling and want to train an AI model but don’t have your workspace to hand? Then connect the Pocket AI to your laptop via Thunderbolt 3. This is how ADLink and Nvidia argue with the introduction of a small box with an Nvidia Ampere A500 GPU. The thing fits into a case of 2.5 cm x 10.6 cm x 7.2 cm and weighs 250 grams.
This graphics card is not an extreme powerhouse. It features 4GB of GDDR6 memory, 2,048 Cuda cores, 64 Tensor cores, and sixteen RT cores. Nvidia states that the card achieves a processing power of 6.54 TFlops in the FP32 performance. Those who are more familiar with GeForce will recognize a variant of the RTX 3050. The TDP is 25 watts.
How much AI one can train with these specifications is still the question. In any case, the Pocket AI offers significantly more computing power than the internal GPU of a modern Intel or AMD processor. This thing comes in handy for people with an Ultrabook who occasionally want the extra horsepower of a GPU without having to buy a new, thicker case.
In practice, we assume that the Pocket AI is not really suitable for mobile use, but rather cuts a decent figure on the desk at home or at work. If you still want to take the Pocket AI with you everywhere, you can put the GPU in a particularly secure rubber housing. Unfortunately, it is not clear how and where you can get the Pocket AI from us.
