Pope Francis told a young transgender man that “God loves us just the way we are” is his latest act of working with the LGBT community.
His comments published by the media Vatican on Tuesday, they were made into a podcast in which Francis listened to and responded to audio messages from youth ahead of the festival catholic youth which he will visit in Portugal next week.
One of the young men was Giona, an Italian in her 20s who said she was “torn apart by the dichotomy between (her Catholic faith) and her transgender identity.”
Francis replied that “The Lord always walks with us (…) Even if we are sinners, He draws near to help us. The Lord loves us just the way we are. insane love for god“.
Catholic Church teaches that members of the LGBT community should be treated with I respectcompassion and sensitivity, and that their human rights must be respected.
If the Church can and should be more hospitable to LGBTfor example, offering a blessing on same-sex unions is a particularly delicate matter.
Francis said “who am I to judge” in response to a specific question about homosexualand condemned laws that criminalize members of the LGBT community as sin and injustice.
At the same time, the 86-year-old pontiff confirmed that wedding it can only be understood as a lifelong union between a man and a woman. Supports the civil laws that give people same-sex couples rights in bureaucratic matters such as pensions and health care.
