Upgrading the US strategic bomber Boeing B-52 Stratofortress will increase its service life and will be able to last 100 years. This assessment was made by The National Interest (TNI).
The first B-52s have been in service for almost 70 years, but work on upgrading the Stratofortress continues. The US Air Force acknowledged that the glider allowed the B-52 to continue operating.
The bomber received a digital communications system CONECT (Combat Network Communications Technology), which allows the B-52 crew to actually receive intelligence. The B-52 will also receive new engines.
In the process of modernization, the B-52 was equipped with an advanced weapons compartment, which allowed the aircraft to carry more corrected JDAM bombs and high-precision cruise missiles AGM-158 JASSM. The B-52 also became the carrier of the AGM-183A hypersonic missile as part of the tests.
