Hey Spotify, do you know where Europe is?

That Spotify’s communication policy has a lot of room for improvement It’s something that no one misses. In this regard, the clearest evidence is when we recall that the streaming music service announced its HiFi sound modality in February 2021 and that more than two years later, at a time when its main competitors already offer this service. (in many cases without a price increase over previous plans), all Spotify had to say on the matter is that “something will come at some point.”

I say it is the main example, but not the only one. At the beginning of last year, we also talked about how the company took a moment to announce exclusive podcasts that were supposed to be very interesting. Problem? Well, a large portion of them never made it to the platform. so after a lot of commercials that never materialized in the podcaststhe company was forced to restructure with layoffs in the podcast division.

I am aware that it may appear that I hold a grudge against Spotify, but I must clarify that I do not. What happens is that, both as a MuyComputer editor and in my role as a Spotify Premium user for more years than I can remember, it’s impossible for me not to respond to a communication policy aimed at achieving headlines, but later translates into a chain of disappointments and more disappointments for service users.

Then we find ourselves again with an example of poorly managed communication. As they posted on their For the Records blog, DJ Spotify is expanding to more countries, as it was only available in Canada, the United States, Ireland, and the United Kingdom until now. With this expansion, the total number of countries exceeds fifty, although the feature is still in beta. And in their publication they show a selection of messages from users requesting their arrival in Europe (three out of four messages, one requesting arrival in Asia). You can see it above this paragraph.

So this is it a list of all countries where the DJ feature is now available after this expansion: Antigua, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Barbuda, Belize, Botswana, Burundi, Canada, Dominica, Swaziland, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, IrelandJamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Malta, Marshall Islands, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines , Samoa, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sweden, Tanzania, Tonga, Uganda, United KingdomUnited States, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Spotify has indeed supported this extension of the DJ feature specifically the mentioned Europe, although no countries from the old continent were involved in this process. As I said, three of the four reports they picked are about Europe, the fourth is asking for his arrival in Asia, where the arrival of the DJ was also a little more than a testimony. Really, Spotify, is it necessary to refer to requests from the very regions where the service has NOT reached? Arguably, they could also have posted requests for DJs from Latin America to make up for the inconsistency of their posting.
