Windows Utopia is a proof of concept that imagines what Windows 12 might look like, the next version of the operating system that Microsoft continues to work on for a planned 2024 release.

Windows 11 is still not convincing and its market share of just over 20% is far from forecasts. This is despite the fact that Microsoft no longer distributes Windows 10 licenses (you can find them here for a great price) and that all new OEM PCs are sold with Windows 11 pre-installed.

Here comes Windows 12 as a shocker. A version under development after a new change from Microsoft in the system engineering plan, which should bring us new versions every three years. Apart from some initial traces shown on some presentation screens last October at the Ignite technical conference and some links in the configuration of the new Cloud PC, we do not have an official confirmation of the new version, but we have a lot of information that collected in this special s all we know so far.

We haven’t seen actual screenshots or videos of the system yet, though we’ve gotten some ideas of what it might look like thanks to it creations of the most talented concept designers. The most interesting was Addy Visuals with the concept of Windows 12, which reimagined how Windows 11 should be.

Now comes the design of AR 4789, a creative expert in the art of ‘concepts’. His idea is called Windows Utopia and similar to other previous developments pay attention to the same installation. If this is generally not a stage where the user can interact, the developer introduces the ability to run tasks such as browsing the web or playing games such as Minesweeper or Minecraft while the operating system is installed and configured in the background.

Understanding that setting up a new PC or simply installing a new operating system can be a hassle, the concept also brings the idea install your favorite apps during setup, with sections for Microsoft itself, but also for Adobe, Google and others.

Already within the system, we see new features in the main components, such as the start menu, the file explorer or the general configuration tool, as well as in the user interface with a new floating main panel at the bottom or a floating search field.

As expected, The co-pilot has a major role in Windows Utopia. Microsoft is investing heavily in artificial intelligence, and these technologies are coming to Windows for performance, search, or security tasks. Very cool, but as we always say, it would have to be transferred from the drawing board to real development, and that is extremely complicated considering the gigantic Windows ecosystem.
