A group of enthusiasts from Mykolaiv has developed, produced and successfully used the Backfire unmanned aerial vehicle in combat conditions.

This was reported to the Ukrinform correspondent by the head of the project, the founder of the charitable foundation “Hero of Ukraine”, a member of the ATO/UOS and now the commander of the joint attack unit on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). ) Ilya Shpolyanskyi of the Ukrainian Navy.

“Kickback” translates as “strike in return.” It has high resistance to enemy radio-electronic countermeasures and means of suppression. The radius of action reaches 35 kilometers, the speed is up to 130 km/h. “The combat weight of 3.6 kg is usually two bombs of 1.8 kg each,” he said.

According to him, the device is silent, its movement is provided by a battery-powered electric motor. In addition, thanks to its small size and successful design, it is inconspicuous for enemy radars.

At the same time, the project manager added that he hit the target with a deviation of up to 5 m after covering a distance of tens of kilometers without the intervention of the operator, but the team is working to hit an even smaller square. – 3 by 3 meters.

Despite good successes at the front, the “Backback” has not yet been adopted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces due to the excessive bureaucratization of the process.

“More than $400,000 in sponsorship funds and not a penny of state funding has been withdrawn into this project. The process of official adoption by the Armed Forces and starting mass production is very slow. To wage a hard war is an unacceptable luxury. Besides, the situation changes very quickly after the war. , therefore the preparation of technical requirements and the coordination of projects through coordination must take place in an extremely short time, because the price for this is human life,” said Shpolyanskii.
