At least 45 people were injured in the area of an optical-mechanical plant in the city of Sergiev Posad, 75 km north of Moscow, local authorities said.
Five of the injured are in critical condition due to burns.. Six people are in intensive care, five of them with 100% body burns, and at least three more have been pulled out from the rubble and are in serious condition, TASS reports.
This was announced in his Telegram channel by the Governor of the Moscow region Andrey Vorobyov. There may be five more people missing. The remaining 17 wounded were hospitalized with minor injuries. Most of the wounded have shrapnel and cut wounds.
“On the territory of the Zagorsk Mechanics and Optics Plant there was an explosion,” Mayor Dmitry Akulov wrote in his Telegram account.
Akulov indicated in his Telegram profile that the explosion occurred at 10:40 (local time) near the boiler room, after which emergency services evacuated nearby buildings.

Sergei Pakhomov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction, Housing and Communal Services, indicated in his Telegram profile that the cause of the explosion is an alleged “violation” of the plant’s security system.
In this sense, authorities launched an investigation under Article 217 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The PiroRoss company, which rented the warehouse, is in bankruptcy proceedings, TASS reports.
Newspaper Kommersant write it the explosion occurred in a fireworks warehouse located inside the plant.
The newspaper indicates that the affected area is about 100 square meters. it was completely destroyed.
