“As of August 9, 2023, the work of the domain name www.yandex.kz has been suspended,” the ministry said.

The agency added that it sent a request to Yandex LLC with a request for detailed information about the location of the data processing centers used by the company and the measures to protect the personal data of Kazakhstani citizens, as well as the principles on which Yandex adheres. interacts with law enforcement and private organizations.

Earlier, a number of media reported that the FSB of the Russian Federation has round-the-clock access to the data of the “Yandex.Taxi” service in Kazakhstan, including the personal information of users.

The company assured that Russian legislation does not apply to the service in Kazakhstan and its users traveling outside of Russia and using the app. It was also alleged that data on the operation of the service in Kazakhstan can be obtained by Russian state bodies only upon official request and only within the framework of established international procedures.

As reported by Ukrinform, Finnish and Norwegian regulators have banned Russian technology group “Yandex” and its Netherlands-based partner Ridetech International from transferring personal data of customers collected by Yango taxi service in these countries to Russia.
