The gateways were developed to establish reliable connections between company locations via DSL, fiber optic, cable or mobile networks. The case also catches the eye.

Lancom introduces a brand new range of SD-WAN gateways. It initially consists of two models: The Lancom 1800VAW offers dual-band WLAN with VDSL and optional fiber optic connection (FTTH). Its sister model, the 1800VAW-4G, offers backup with 4G connectivity when WiFi goes down temporarily.

Both devices have an integrated VDSL modem with support for supervectoring up to 300 Mbit/s. A direct connection to fiber optics is also possible via a separately available SFP module (EUR 159 for GPON, EUR 119 for AON, plus VAT). The presence of WiFi 6 technology allows transmission speeds of up to 1,200 Mbit/s on 5 GHz and at the same time up to 575 Mbit/s on 2.4 GHz.

Lancom also attaches great importance to security. The gateways have sixteen IP contexts that are individually configured via the central router to separate communication channels. Five integrated IPSec VPN channels (optionally expandable to 25) encrypt the connection between company locations and protect internal data from interception by outsiders.

The case is more striking than the specs. Lancom is switching to a “Blackline” case that offers not only aesthetic but also functional purposes. This offers more space, for example VDSL, fiber optic, WiFi and 5G at the same time and also introduces a new cooling system. The housing is “made in the Netherlands” and can be recycled after the gateway has been used.

Prices and Availability

The Lancom 1800VAW-4G is now available at the recommended retail price of 1,590 euros, the Lancom 1800VAW for 1,090 euros. The prices are exclusive of VAT. Lancom also sells two mounting racks with the gateways, which cost 139 euros and 249 euros for the “Plus” version, again without VAT.
