The communication platform Slack gets a new design. This was announced by the owner Salesforce.
Salesforce announced that Slack is about to undergo a significant transformation. The updated design will be available to users worldwide in the coming months.
These innovations aim to provide more focus and access to the diverse tools professionals will need in 2023. It would also make navigating the platform easier.
A Salesforce-owned study found that nearly three-quarters of team leaders are under pressure to increase efficiency in their organization. Another study showed that companies use more than a thousand tools and applications, but too often these are still not connected. According to Salesforce, this creates data silos.
The company believes that businesses are more efficient when they have a place where both the people and the tools they use are centralized. Of course, that’s what Salesforce wants to achieve with the new design of Slack.
The umbrella term for these innovations seems to be visibility. For example, the column on the left has been updated to make it clearer. The home button now gives you access to conversations, unread messages, and your unsent draft messages. You can filter for different workstations using the “Home” button.
There’s now a clear distinction between private messages and things like comments, notifications, and threads. You can now start a new message with a plus symbol, but you can also create a new canvas or a new channel this way.
To search for something, your attention now shifts from the top of the screen to the column on the left. Another thing that moves is your profile (with status) which can now be found in the bottom left corner.
When you shrink the screen for Slack, everything from messages and notifications etc. is available under the “More” umbrella. That changes again when you zoom in on your screen again.
Salesforce emphasizes that these innovations will not appear everywhere immediately. The company will roll out the update worldwide in the coming months.
This new design for Slack now comes a few months after updates like the addition of AI and the Canvas feature.
