The US Department of Defense announced the creation of the Lima Artificial Intelligence Task Force to promote and use the latest artificial intelligence technologies for strategic purposes.
Ukrinform’s own correspondent reports that US Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, who oversaw the creation of the new unit, said so on Thursday.
“The creation of the Lima task force underlines the Department of Defense’s unwavering commitment to pioneering AI innovation,” Hicks said.
It will also focus on ensuring national security, minimizing risks and responsible integration of new technologies.
“The future of defense lies not only in the application of advanced technologies, but also in foresight and responsibility, as well as a deep understanding of the broader ramifications for our nation,” said the Pentagon representative.
The Lima group is expected to work under the leadership of the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO). The US Department of Defense stated that in partnership with the intelligence community and other US government agencies, the task force will help minimize risks and excessive resource requirements.
As Ukrinform reported, a day before US President Joe Biden signed a decree limiting American investments in the production of certain technologies, including artificial intelligence, in China.
