At least 55 people have died in an active wildfire in Hawaii. especially to the city of Lahaina, located on the island of Maui, and the number is expected to continue to rise, according to authorities.

“As firefighting efforts continue, an additional 17 deaths have been confirmed as a result of the active fire in Lahaina,” Maui County said on its website on August 10, albeit in the afternoon.

The first official count of deaths was released on the afternoon of August 9: 36 people died and 14 people were rescued by the Coast Guard after dozens escaped the fire by jumping into the sea.
