California firefighters use artificial intelligence (AI) to detect wildfires in a timely manner.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Reuters.
California firefighters are said to use artificial intelligence to process video from more than 1,000 strategically placed cameras across the state, so the machine alerts responders to fire hotspots.
An example of the potential of the ALERTCalifornia AI program, launched last month, is when a camera recorded a 3 a.m. fire in the Cleveland National Forest, about 80 miles east of San Diego city.
At that time people were sleeping and the smoke was obscured by the darkness. But the artificial intelligence alerted the fire brigade’s duty officer, who called about 60 firefighters to put out the fire. The fire was extinguished after 45 minutes.
Developed by UC San Diego engineers using the artificial intelligence of DigitalPath, the platform features 1,038 cameras, each of which can rotate 360 degrees, installed by various government agencies and energy companies across the state.
As reported, large-scale forest fires continue in the USA. Flames from them covered almost the entire west of the country. In the state of California, the governor declared a state of emergency in several northern counties where wildfires continue.
More than 1 million acres (more than 400,000 hectares) of forest burned as a result of 80 major wildfires caused by abnormally high temperatures in 13 states in the western US.
