Asian smartphone maker Xiaomi will block the Telegram app from being installed on devices using the MIUI system and firmware interface.

As reported by Ukrinform, Bleeping Computer reported it.

As of now, MIUI is marking the messaging platform Telegram as a dangerous app in China.

After Telegram is identified by the system, users see a warning that the app has not passed Xiaomi’s security check. Arguments for banning a “fake” app include the risks of fraudulent transactions or unjustified costs.

MIUI is an Android-based operating system that Xiaomi uses on its smartphones and mobile devices.

After the release of MIUI 13 last year, the company added a new security feature to block and flag malicious apps from running on devices. If the application is considered dangerous, the system will try to remove it from the smartphone or prevent it from being installed on the device.

Previously, this feature of MIUI aroused suspicion and criticism when users suggested that Xiaomi was working with the Chinese Communist Party to monitor user activity and censorship practices in this way.

It has been noted that Chinese authorities have previously imposed restrictions or outright bans on global platforms such as Facebook, Twitter (X), WhatsApp and Google.

As Ukrinform reported, ChatGPT is blocked in Italy due to illegal data collection.
