Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 is a new folding machine that the Chinese company introduced in its country of origin. As expected, the mobile improves in performance, screens, chassis and cameras in a set of hardware that allows it to compete with anyone.

Foldables are the only segment that continues to grow within a large group of smartphones whose general sales are set to drop significantly this year due to the general seasonal slowdown we’re in. Their price, much higher than average, makes them profitable and there are several manufacturers that have series with this design. For example, Samsung and its Fold and Flip (sales leader) and others as impressive as the HONOR Magic V2.

Xiaomi improved all sections starting with the use of materials “flight grade” for improve its durability and robustness, “36 times stronger than glass” a standard typically used in mobile phones. It also improved the hinge, a key folding component that can withstand up to half a million movements, and whose new design allowed the terminal to be reduced in thickness so that one of the thinnest in its segment: 5 mm when unfolded and 10.2 mm when folded.

Another news comes from the screens, both with AMOLED panel manufactured by Samsung. The outer casing measures 6.56 inches and has a resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels. The flexible internal screen offers a diagonal of 8 inches with a resolution above 2K, support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 1300 nits.

Its main engine is the chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2with a maximum clock of 3.36 GHz, it is complemented by a minimum of 12 GB (expandable up to 16 GB) and 256 GB of internal UFS storage, which can be expanded up to 1 byte in the maximum configuration.

Xiaomi also produced major changes to the camera, especially in the main one prepared by Leica, which includes four sensors, a 50MP Sony IMX800, a 12MP ultra-wide, a 10MP 3.2X zoom and a 10MP 5X periscopic zoom. The cover display includes a 20MP selfie camera.

Power is provided by a generous battery o 4800 mAh. It supports wired and wireless charging with a power of 67 W and 50 W. Of course, it supports the latest standards in connectivity, 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3.

Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 will be distributed in two colors, black and gold, with Android 13 pre-installed and a custom MIUI interface optimized for use in folding devices.

At the moment, it is only available in China at the pre-order stage. Prices start at 8,999 yuan ($1,240 to replace) from the base configuration, although it can be upgraded to the top of the range (16GB RAM and 1TB storage) for 10,999 yuan ($1,515). Another great contender in the folding segment that is sure to continue to grow.
