United States Secretary of the Treasury (USA) Janet Yellen ate hallucinogenic mushrooms at a restaurant in Beijing during a recent trip she made to the Asian country to approach a position in the Chinese government, a senior official told CNN.
“I went with a large group of people who organized dinner and ordered food. It turned out to be a delicious mushroom dish. I didn’t know these mushrooms had hallucinogenic properties. I found out later,” the 77-year-old secretary said with a laugh.
However, Yellen explained that none of the diners felt the psychedelic “effects” “I have found that when these mushrooms are well cooked, which I believe they are because this is a very good restaurant, they have no effect,” she added.

The Treasury Secretary’s dinner went viral on social media after a Chinese blogger said he saw her eating with a group of people at the Yi Zuo Yi Wang restaurant in Beijing.
The business confirmed that Yellen was their client and that the group with the diner ordered four bowls of mushrooms typical of Yunnan cuisine in southern China.

The secretary was in Beijing in early July as part of the Joe Biden administration’s strategy to establish stable channels of communication with China to avoid direct conflict between the two powers.
