A herd of elephants escaped from the Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda, one of the largest protected areas in the African country, located in the Kasese region, and killed two men in the nearby town of Kasandala.

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) spokesman Bashir Hangi said on Tuesday that the animals escaped last Monday from a protected area southwest of the capital, Kampala, and they went to the city of Kasandala.

Elephants, in addition to causing great damage on their way, cut off lives a man who was in his garden and another man who was going to fish in the lake close to the city. The UWA opened an investigation folder into what happened.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations and visited from Uganda because of its biodiversity. It borders the Virunga National Park in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo.

According to the UWA, there has been an increase in the number of large mammals, including elephants, in the national parks recently. Queen Elizabeth National Park It has almost 8 thousand elephants.
