Japanese division of Microsoft Corp. will launch a separate isolated version of the ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot that will be able to process confidential information of government ministries and departments and confidential corporate data of Japanese companies.

This was reported by Kyodo, Ukrinform reports.

Unlike the generally available ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer), the new version of the generative artificial intelligence (AI) service will process all information from data centers in Japan and not transfer it to servers outside the country.

Such an isolated version of the chatbot is also expected to be requested by Japanese banks and companies and corporations that need to process sensitive data.

As the post indicates, Japan will be the third region where Microsoft will launch a similar service, after the US and Europe.

The move is in line with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s efforts to use artificial intelligence (AI) as the new driver of economic growth in Japan and help the country recover from decades of economic recession. In June, Kishida promised to make the best use of artificial intelligence to accelerate the so-called “new capitalism” policies.

The Japanese government plans to use ChatGPT reducing the excessive workload on officials in a number of areas, particularly in preparing for questions in parliamentary sessions and recording various types of meetings and meetings.

The Japanese cabinet is also considering implementing this service for the needs of each government agency.

Microsoft announced its plans for the new service at a meeting at the ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s headquarters in Tokyo in late July, and assured that sensitive information would remain in Japan without being accessed from abroad.

Most of the lawmakers and government present at that meeting welcomed this step, expressing the hope that the new technology will see wide demand in various fields, especially in finance, defense and medicine.

As Ukrinform reported, UK Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden said that artificial intelligence (AI) could have a more significant impact on the country than the industrial revolution, but hackers could use it to gain access to confidential government information.
