From now on you can also order modular framework laptops with a matching keyboard layout in Belgium.

You can now also order a Framework Laptop 13 and a Framework Laptop 16 in Belgium. The devices are available with a Belgian keyboard layout. The Dutch could put the modular laptop in the shopping cart earlier. Overall, Framework now supports twelve countries, including neighboring countries France, Germany and Great Britain.

Modular laptop

Earlier this year, the start-up Framework launched a promising concept: a modular laptop. The Framework Laptop 13 and 16 are devices that are physically on par with a modern laptop, but offer more freedom inside. Compare the concept to that of the Fairphone: individual components are not soldered or glued together, but can be easily replaced if they become worn or aged.

Among other things, the screen, the screen edges, the connections, the WLAN card, the keyboard, battery, memory and RAM are modular. Over time, Framework also wants to add motherboard and CPU. The company is taking this approach for environmental reasons: If you can upgrade a laptop like a desktop, it will last longer and you’re less likely to throw it away as a result.

Raptor Lake

At the start, the devices were available with 11th generation Intel CPUs. Simultaneously with the availability in Belgium, Framework announces compatibility with the latest thirteenth generation CPUs. AMD variants are also available.

The repairability is not only a plus in terms of durability. In a business context, we also see great value in devices where you can swap out components at will. The downside is the company itself: Framework is a start-up. Whether components actually remain available for repairs and upgrades over the long term depends on the success of this small and untried business.

When configuring the lightest possible laptop with Raptor Lake (Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD, 2x USB-C, 1x USB-A and 1x HDMI), we arrive at a price of 1,109 euros including VAT. For that money we still have to click the components together ourselves. We also do not order a charger and operating system.
