The Steam Deck notebook was undoubtedly a huge success Valve. As we already remembered a few days ago, when we learned that the company will start selling refurbished units, of course at a lower price than new units, we remembered that in addition to attracting many users and solving the operation of the game on it (thanks Proton), it was also a shock to the portable console market, which until then was little more than a desert, with the only notable exception being the Nintendo Switch.

Of course, one of the keys to Steam Deck’s success has to do with its compatibility with a large number of games available on Steam. As you already know, the console uses the SteamOS operating system (although Windows can also be installed on it), which is based on Arch, a popular Linux distribution. And this is important because, as I already mentioned, we owe compatibility to Proton, a tool developed by Valve (although it integrates third-party development) and which allows many games that do not have official versions for this operating system to be used without complications on Linux.

Recall that after an initial announcement that was somewhat… let’s say triumphalist, Valve pulled up some wire and launched the Deck Verified testing program, which Explore different aspects individuallys, awarding at the end a rating that oscillates between fully compatible and incompatible conditions, which are explained in detail for each title. Now, although the evaluation done by Steam meets the parameters defined by Valve, it is not comparable to the actual experience of the players.

Therefore, as we can read on his blog, ProtonDB has separated information about the compatibility of games in the Steam Deck. The service collects the ratings of players who use Proton, so until now the ratings of those users who play on PC were displayed together with those who play on Steam Deck, which, while not impossible, made the game more difficult. the process of only looking for feedback on Valve console games.

To make things easier, ProtonDB now displays a selector on each game’s tab that it allows us to choose whether we want to see PC ratings, Steam Deck user ratings, or, as shown so far, all of them together. In addition, the rating obtained after the Deck Verified tests is also displayed (as before), so its usefulness is more than evident. It’s true that there is obviously a lot more feedback on PC games than Steam Deck, but I went through quite a few files before writing this report and I found specific feedback on the Steam Deck in all the games I consulted.
