OHCHR, whose office for Central America and the Caribbean is based in Panama City, also denounced the fact that UCA was classified as “center of terrorism for organizing criminal groupsthe Nicaraguan authorities.
“OHCHR reminds the State of Nicaragua that their obligation in the face of a major university closure measureof course, for reasons of national security, must be justified by the provisions of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.”

In a statement released via social media, the Office of the High Commissioner also warned that this measure by the Nicaraguan authorities “seriously affects the right to educationnecessary for the realization of other human rights”.
