The latest version of Windows 11 for public testing, build 25931 from the ‘Canary’ channel, includes a change that millions of users have been clamoring for to make it easier to uninstall apps in Windows 11. Not all possible but it is a positive change that should be the way forward in the future.

What are we going to tell you that you are not yet suffering in your body. Windows 11 is a behemoth that’s packed with software and services you’ll probably never use. And we’re not just talking about the fateful Bloatware, but also about the number of applications we call in stock Microsoft believes it should be part of the operating system. All this software and the services they connect to take up resources, so it’s no wonder that Windows 11 offers less performance than Windows 10 and is also slower than Windows 7.

In addition to third-party software and advertising, Microsoft is increasingly including more of its own software in Windows, for commercial reasons and not in the interest of users. Some apps are useful, but most are useless as you may want to install alternatives from other providers. Many of these applications are part of the system and cannot be uninstalled without breaking the system. Others can be uninstalled using third-party applications, and those few can be removed from the same system with simple methods, as they should all be.

Microsoft recently took a small but positive step to make it easier to uninstall Windows 11 apps like “Camera” and “Cortana” that are still, inexplicably, part of the default installation. With the latest trial version added more like ‘Photos’, ‘People’ and ‘Remote Desktop Client’. The Photos app can be uninstalled directly from the Start menu, while the other two are removed from the General Settings tool.

We insist: making it easier to remove software is the way to go until Microsoft decides to offer a truly clean Windows, with no bloatware, no ads, and no common apps we don’t use at all. It would be a good show of respect for the customer to offer them as an optional download…
